Product identity

Shopify (and multi-store setups especially) can end up with several listings that are really the same physical product - the same item re-listed, a duplicate created by mistake, or the same SKU sold from two connected stores. Product identity (in Brand & data management) is where you tell Kreel which listings are actually one product, and which listings shouldn’t count in product analytics at all.

Every merge, split, and exclusion here applies everywhere a product number appears: the Products tab, the top-product breakdown on Revenue, and your agent’s answers. Raw, unmerged per-listing rows stay available to agents through the query DSL if you need them.

Listings that share a variant SKU (with an agreeing title) are automatically treated as one product - both within a single store and across your connected stores. This heuristic runs first; your manual merges, splits, and exclusions below always take precedence over it.

Listings with no SKU at all can’t auto-merge and are flagged No SKU in the listing table.

  1. Open Product identity in Settings for the active brand.
  2. Under All listings, search for the listings you want to combine and tick two or more.
  3. Click Merge N selected.

A manual merge absorbs any group its members already belonged to, and clears any prior split or exclusion on those listings - the merge is the explicit, most-recent call.

Two other panels surface merge candidates Kreel found but won’t apply automatically:

  • Suggested merges - active listings with the same title that don’t share a SKU. Click Merge to confirm one.
  • SKU conflicts - one SKU appearing on differently titled listings. These are flagged, not merged, since a shared SKU with different titles is often a real difference (a variant vs. a different product) rather than a duplicate.

To undo, open the merged group under Merged listings and click Split out on a member, or Unmerge the whole group.

Exclude services, retail-only bundles, samples, or anything else that shouldn’t count in product analytics, from a listing’s row with the Exclude button. Excluded listings show struck through in the list and drop out of product counts and revenue everywhere product identity is used.

Instead of (or alongside) excluding listings one at a time, you can define a rule that excludes by Shopify tag:

  • Only listings tagged… (allowlist) - everything without one of the listed tags is excluded.
  • Exclude listings tagged… (blocklist) - everything with one of the listed tags is excluded.

Enter tags comma-separated, or click a tag chip from the tag-frequency list below the input to add it. The page previews how many active listings the rule would exclude before you save, including how many currently-included listings would newly drop out.

A manual exclude/include always overrides the tag rule for that specific listing - a rule that would exclude a listing you’ve explicitly kept (“kept by override”) leaves it included, and vice versa.

Tags refresh on Shopify’s regular 6-hour sync, so retagging a product in Shopify can take up to one sync cycle to reach this page and affect analytics.

Only workspace owners and admins can change merges, splits, exclusions, or the tag rule. Everyone with brand access can view the current clusters and coverage.

The page also shows who last changed product identity settings, and when.
