Connect Google Analytics 4 to Kreel
Google Analytics 4 adds what your store and ad platforms can’t see on their own: all website traffic, paid and unpaid, where it came from, which landing pages it arrived on, and what visitors did before buying. Kreel treats GA4 as a website measurement source. Shopify stays the canonical record of sales, and GA4 figures are always shown separately, never added to store or ad-platform numbers.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You need:
- A Kreel workspace role that can connect platforms (Owner or Admin).
- A Google login with at least read access to the GA4 property you want to connect.
- A GA4 web data stream collecting your store’s traffic. App streams can’t be selected.
For the shopping metrics to mean anything, your store also needs:
- Ecommerce events tagged on the site:
view_item,add_to_cart,begin_checkout, andpurchase. purchasemarked as a key event in GA4 (Admin → Data display → Events). Without it, purchase session rate is shown as unavailable, not as 0%. GA4 does not apply a key-event change to earlier dates.
Connecting GA4 cannot recover events your site never sent.
Connect GA4
Section titled “Connect GA4”- Sign in to Kreel at app.kreel.ai and open Connections.
- Find Google Analytics 4 and click Connect.
- Choose the Google login that can read your property, then approve access.
Kreel asks only for read-only Google Analytics access (
analytics.readonly), separately from Google Ads. Connecting Google Ads does not connect GA4, and the reverse is also true. - Back in Kreel, the property picker opens. Pick the property, then the web stream this brand reports on, and click Confirm selection.
If you untick the Analytics permission on Google’s screen, Kreel refuses the connection and tells you so. Try again and leave it ticked.
One property and one stream per brand
Section titled “One property and one stream per brand”A Google login often reaches several GA4 properties, sometimes for unrelated businesses. Reaching a property doesn’t connect it: Kreel reads only the one property and web stream you select.
To switch, click Change property on the GA4 row. Choosing a different property or stream replaces the previous one and deletes the website data synced for it, so figures from two properties are never mixed. Re-selecting the current stream keeps its history.
Sync and freshness
Section titled “Sync and freshness”- After you select a property and stream, Kreel imports the most recent 30 days first, usually within minutes. It then keeps working backward in the background: roughly the last 13 months, then up to two years of history. The GA4 row on Connections shows which stages are verified so far, the same coverage strip every other platform has.
- Every day, Kreel re-fetches the latest 14 days, because GA4 keeps processing and revising recent data.
- GA4 usually needs 24-48 hours to finish processing a day, so very recent days are marked provisional until a later sync refreshes them.
- Days follow the GA4 property’s time zone. If it differs from your brand’s reporting time zone, Kreel says so, because GA4 daily totals can’t be shifted into another time zone.
- Re-sync on the GA4 row runs a routine refresh on demand. Full re-sync (up to 2 years) restarts the historical backfill; use it to recover missing or stale history, not for routine updates. If a historical stage fails, Retry history appears next to it.
What Kreel reads
Section titled “What Kreel reads”Read-only, for the selected web stream only:
- Site totals: sessions, engaged sessions, ecommerce purchases, and the purchase session rate.
- Traffic acquisition by session source / medium, default channel group, and GA4 campaign, by device.
- Landing pages by device and session source.
- Counts of the
view_item,add_to_cart,begin_checkout, andpurchaseevents. - Report quality flags GA4 attaches: thresholding,
(other)rows, and sampling.
Kreel doesn’t change anything in Google Analytics.
See your data
Section titled “See your data”- Performance → Overview shows a compact Website activity section below the store and paid-media KPIs.
- Performance → Website has the full view: traffic acquisition, landing pages, devices, and shopping activity. See Website.
- Your AI agent can query the same data over MCP. See Data tools and The query tool.
Permission lost
Section titled “Permission lost”If Google stops honouring the authorization (you revoked it, changed your password, or lost access to the property), the GA4 row shows Action required. Stored data stays visible but stops updating. Click Re-authorize and sign in with a login that can read the property.
Disconnect
Section titled “Disconnect”Open Connections, find Google Analytics 4, and click Revoke, then confirm. Kreel stops syncing and revokes the authorization at Google. Synced website data is kept for 90 days in case you reconnect, then permanently deleted.
